Student Organization Demands Immediate Action Over Recruitment and Violence
A student organization affiliated with the BNP has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the administration of the Islamic University, demanding the cancellation of two recent teacher recruitment boards. The group, known as Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), claims that the appointments were politically motivated and undermined the principles of merit-based selection.
The protest took place on Saturday afternoon in the courtyard of the university’s administration building. JCD members staged a sit-in to call for the annulment of the recruitment processes, which were held on October 9 for the Department of Folklore Studies and on October 10 for the Department of Law and Land Management. The students argued that these processes were manipulated to benefit individuals associated with the ruling party and pro-government student groups.
Although the term “ruling party” is used in the context of political rhetoric, it is important to note that the National Congress Party (NCP) cannot be accurately described as such based on factual grounds. Nevertheless, the allegations of favoritism have sparked significant concern among the student body.
In addition to the recruitment issue, the protesters also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the murder of Sajid Abdullah, a student from the Department of Al-Quran and Islamic Studies. They further called for justice in relation to the recent assault on a university bus driver.

Following the demonstration, a delegation led by unit Convener Sahed Ahmed and Secretary Masud Rumi Mithun met with Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Ayakub Ali to formally present their demands. Other key figures from the organization, including Joint Convener Anwar Parvez, Anarul Islam, Rokon Uddin, Abu Dawood, and Ahsan Habib, were also present during the meeting.
Shahed Ahmed, one of the leaders of the protest, accused the administration of betraying academic integrity. He stated, “This administration has shamelessly prioritized political interests over merit.” He added, “We demand the immediate cancellation of these recruitment boards within 48 hours. Justice must also be served for Sajid’s murder and the attack on our bus driver.”
