Professor Green and Millie Mackintosh Reconnect After a Decade of Distance
Professor Green, the 41-year-old rapper known for his real name Stephen Paul Manderson, has opened up about his current relationship with his ex-wife, Millie Mackintosh. The pair, who were married for three years before splitting in 2016, have not spoken publicly about their relationship in recent years. However, they have recently reconnected, which marks a significant shift in their dynamic.
Despite their past challenges, Professor Green shared that he and Millie are now on good terms. This comes after he revealed that they were both under pressure to get married, which nearly caused him to call off the wedding. During an appearance on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, he discussed how the pressure from external sources played a role in their decision to tie the knot.
The Pressure to Marry
“I remember having a conversation with my two best mates, Lewis and Phoenix. ‘Am I getting cold feet? What’s going on here?’ And one of them said yes. One of them said no. I won’t put him in it, because it’s not their responsibility,” Professor Green explained. He emphasized that the decision was ultimately his and Millie’s, and they did not get married for the wrong reasons.
However, he also acknowledged that there may have been elements of trauma bonding in their relationship. “It takes a lot to get to a place of going, ‘I had a significant part in that, 50% at least, because there were two of us in the situation, and it didn’t work out.’ But hopefully we can both go forward and find happiness and belonging.”
Reflections on Their Relationship
Professor Green reflected on the attention the couple received during their marriage, calling it “crazy.” He noted that the pressure from the public made it difficult to maintain an authentic relationship. “The pressure that came from that… it just made it impossible in hindsight to have a really truly authentic relationship.”
He added that he recently reconnected with Millie to support each other and reflect on their undiagnosed ADHD. “There was undiagnosed neurodivergence between both of us. We had a conversation about this recently, and it makes sense.”
A Respectful Relationship
Speaking about Millie, Professor Green expressed no resentment. “I don’t want to sit here and speak ill of her at all. There isn’t any resentment. She is gorgeous. We were just not good for each other at that time.”
Millie previously admitted that she felt unsure about their relationship before their lavish 2013 wedding at Babington House in Somerset. She stated that she was too scared to call it off due to the shame of letting everyone down. However, in 2018, she denied claims that their upbringings were the foundation for their breakup.
Shared Backgrounds and Separate Paths
Millie, an heiress of Quality Street, grew up in a wealthy family, while Professor Green was raised by his grandmother, great-grandmother, and uncles in a two-bedroom flat on the Northwold housing estate in Hackney. Despite their different backgrounds, Millie emphasized that those comments only degrade the relationship and time they spent together.
“We went our separate ways amicably. Sometimes it can be as simple as finding yourselves on different paths, and for us it was about respecting those journeys and each other’s wishes by parting ways. We have since both moved on. I only wish him the best.”
New Beginnings
The same week their divorce was finalised in May 2016, Millie began dating her now-husband Hugo Taylor, whom she had previously dated and starred with on Made in Chelsea. They were married in July 2018 and share two daughters – Sienna, 5, and Aurelia, 4.
Meanwhile, Professor Green welcomed son Slimane Ray with actress girlfriend Karima McAdams in March 2021. Both former partners have found new happiness and are moving forward with their lives.
