Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed his belief that the team’s performance in their recent defeat to Arsenal was more impressive than their victories against Liverpool and Brighton. Despite a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal in the opening match of the 2025-26 season, the Red Devils have since regained their form and secured three consecutive wins, including victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, which have propelled them into the Premier League top four.

After Saturday’s 4-2 win over Brighton, Amorim shared his thoughts on the team’s performances this season. He stated, “I think the best game we did this season was against Arsenal, the first one.” However, he added that the performance against Brighton was more complete compared to the match against Liverpool.

Amorim emphasized, “You can say whatever you want about Liverpool, but they didn’t deserve to lose. We deserved to win but they didn’t deserve to lose.” He also highlighted the team’s balanced approach in the Brighton game, saying, “We had the ball. We created chances, we defended high up the pitch and low down the pitch. I liked [the performance] more today than last weekend.”

In addition to discussing the team’s performance, Amorim revealed that defender Luke Shaw is currently dealing with a ‘virus.’ Shaw played for 65 minutes before being substituted by Ayden Heaven. Despite this, Amorim assured fans that Shaw will be fully fit for the upcoming match against Nottingham Forest on November 1. “Luke Shaw had a virus during the week. He struggled a little in the game. But he’s going to be ready for the next one,” he said.

Amorim also praised Bryan Mbeumo, the summer signing who scored twice in the victory over Brighton. He described Mbeumo as a “machine,” highlighting his work ethic and effectiveness in transitions. “He’s so good in transitions. He’s improving in the final third. The connection with Amad Diallo is really hard to beat these two guys because they change positions, they are fast and so good in one-vs-ones,” Amorim added.

Mbeumo shared his perspective on adapting to the new environment at Manchester United. “I enjoy it a lot here. It hasn’t been easy at the start. It’s a new environment, a new expectation, but I think everything is going the right way now. The work we put in, the effort, the togetherness we give on the pitch is key, and after we try to stick to the plan and we try to play as best as possible,” he said.
