Daryl Somers’ Reaction to Livinia Nixon’s Farewell

Daryl Somers, a well-known figure in the Australian media landscape, has reportedly felt disappointed after not receiving a mention during Livinia Nixon’s farewell segment on Tuesday night. The Melbourne weather presenter, who has spent 21 years in her role, delivered her final broadcast at Channel Nine, marking the end of an era. A clip showcasing her career highlights was featured, but it did not include a shoutout for Daryl, leaving him feeling ‘bruised’, according to news.com.au. However, a spokesperson for Daryl has denied these claims.

The report suggested that Daryl, who was once an anchor and executive producer of the iconic show, might have been expecting recognition for his role in launching Livinia’s career. It is also mentioned that sources claim Daryl may now be reviewing the footage used by Nine for Livinia’s appearances on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, as his company SEA acquired the copyright for the variety show in 2010.

When contacted for comment, Daryl’s spokesperson stated that these claims were ‘absolutely false’.

Hey Hey It’s Saturday, which aired on Nine for 28 years from 1971 to 1999, saw Livinia join alongside Daryl in 1997. The show was a significant part of both their careers, with Daryl playing a pivotal role in shaping the program.

Emotional Farewell for Livinia Nixon

The 9News Melbourne team bid an emotional farewell to Livinia this week after she delivered her final broadcast as a weather presenter. The occasion was marked by a five-minute package that highlighted her two decades of bringing Melburnians the weather.

‘The secret to Livo’s success has been her ability to just be herself,’ Tony Jones said over a montage of some of Livinia’s memorable on-air moments. ‘The Livinia Nixon you see in your lounge room each night is the same Livinia we see in the newsroom each day.’

The package concluded with a heartfelt message: ‘Best to check that pollen count one more time, Livo, because there’s watery eyes across Melbourne tonight.’

In the newsroom, Livinia was surrounded by the entire 9News Melbourne team and family members, who gathered to bid her a fond farewell.

‘You really are the ray of sunshine in our team,’ Tom Steinfort said. ‘We have people come up to us all the time and say: “Livinia seems nice on air but what’s she like in real life?” and I say: ‘Even more wonderful.’

Livinia’s Gratitude and Future Plans

‘You are such a beautiful person. I will miss you, and I hope you know how many people at home are going to miss welcoming you into their living rooms.’ An appreciative Livinia then reciprocated the love, admitting the decision to leave was not easy.

‘This is a very difficult decision to make because I do love this job,’ she said. ‘But I feel it’s the right decision at the right time for my family. I want to see my boys chase their dreams.’

Livinia went on to thank husband Alistair and Channel Nine for their ‘unwavering support’ after she announced her exit. Although she is stepping away from the 9News team, she is not leaving the network entirely and will still appear on Getaway and Postcards.
