Hekima School Celebrates Historic Junior Secondary Examination Success

Kisumu, Kenya – A wave of jubilation swept through Hekima School in Kisumu on Friday as teachers, parents, and students came together to celebrate the release of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) examination results. This landmark achievement marks a significant milestone for the institution, particularly for its inaugural class under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The school’s leadership, spearheaded by School Director Dr. Richard Guya and Head Teacher Mr. Collins Ouma, lauded the results as “remarkable.” This commendation comes despite what they described as a somewhat confusing and unpredictable process surrounding the release of the scores.

A Triumph Against Odds

Dr. Guya explained that the school accessed the examination results online and was immediately impressed by the performance of their candidates, which he stated had exceeded all expectations. “We are incredibly happy. All our learners have made us proud,” Dr. Guya shared. “Hekima is renowned for its commitment to excellence. This is our enduring tradition, and we are determined to maintain this high standard as we prepare to transition into our senior secondary school phase.”

A detailed breakdown of the results revealed that the top-performing students achieved scores ranging from 69 to 72 points. Even the lowest score recorded was 42 points, a grade that educators deemed highly commendable, especially considering this pioneer CBC class was navigating a completely new curriculum structure.

Mr. Ouma attributed the outstanding performance to a synergistic blend of teamwork, unwavering faith, and remarkable resilience demonstrated by both the students and the teaching staff. “Our teachers dedicated countless hours, working around the clock. Our parents provided invaluable support, and the learners maintained a high level of discipline. Discipline has been the cornerstone of this success,” he emphasized.

Top Performers Share Their Journeys

Among the jubilant students celebrating their success were three standout performers: Candy Praise, Nevine Imani, and Effie Rhodil. These fifteen-year-olds were present to articulate their excitement and share their aspirations for the future.

Candy Praise expressed that the results were a direct reflection of their diligent efforts and intrinsic motivation. “We anticipated good results, and that’s precisely what we achieved. My ambition is to join a prestigious national school such as State House Girls or Moi Kabarak, and I am keen to pursue a career in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field,” she stated.

Her sentiments were echoed by Nevine Imani, who admitted to experiencing considerable anxiety in the period leading up to the results announcement. “Through discipline, persistence, and perseverance, we have triumphed. I am immensely proud of myself, my parents, and my teachers,” he remarked.

Effie Rhodil described the educational journey as challenging yet deeply rewarding. “As the inaugural CBC class, we had no established benchmarks or precedents to follow. It was a difficult path, but with courage and discipline, we managed to navigate it successfully. My aspiration is also to pursue STEM,” she shared.

Hekima School: Ready for Senior Secondary Education

Dr. Guya further revealed that Hekima School has made substantial investments in its infrastructure, including the development of modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and a dedicated computer lab. These enhancements ensure the school is fully prepared to accommodate the incoming senior secondary students. “We possess the necessary space and the state-of-the-art facilities. We are completely equipped to offer senior secondary education,” Dr. Guya affirmed.

While celebrating the success, the teaching staff also acknowledged the valuable lessons learned from the experience. “We have understood that when implementing a new educational system, it is imperative to be thorough and consistently keep the learners focused,” commented one teacher. “Encouragement, unwavering dedication, and a clear vision of our objectives were instrumental in carrying us through.”

Despite the initial confusion surrounding the format and release mechanism of the results, the school administration is confident that they now have a clear understanding of the system. They are poised to leverage this year’s achievements to further enhance their strategies for future assessment cycles.

Looking ahead, Hekima School is committed to assisting its graduating candidates in securing placements at top-tier national schools and strengthening its CBC pedagogical approach in anticipation of upcoming examinations.

“This is merely the beginning,” Dr. Guya concluded with optimism. “We are confident that in the next examination cycle, our results will be even more impressive.”
