Broadcaster Park Narae Faces Serious Allegations of Abuse and Illegal Medical Practices

South Korean broadcaster Park Narae, 40, is currently at the center of a growing controversy, facing a series of serious allegations that include “power abuse” and “illegal medical practices.” The accusations, brought forth by former associates, paint a concerning picture of alleged coercion and violations of medical and labor laws.

One of the most significant claims comes from a former manager, identified as “A,” who alleges that Park Narae pressured her to engage in illegal proxy prescriptions. According to Channel A reports on the 12th, A stated that Park Narae coerced her into violating medical regulations by obtaining prescription medications on her behalf.

The former manager detailed instances where her refusal to comply with Park Narae’s requests was met with intimidation. A claims to have received threatening messages, such as, “This is part of artist care—why aren’t you doing it?” and “Since you’ve already done it for me once, you can’t escape this, and you might never work in this field again.” These messages, purportedly sent by Park Narae, suggest a pattern of coercive behavior aimed at forcing the manager’s compliance.

In response to this alleged coercion, A revealed that on the 8th, she filed a formal complaint with the police against Park Narae. The complaint included screenshot evidence of the threatening messages as supporting documentation. Law enforcement authorities have indicated their intention to thoroughly investigate all parties involved in the case and to determine if additional charges related to coercion can be levied against the broadcaster.

Disparities in Social Insurance Enrollment

Further allegations have surfaced regarding disparities in how Park Narae treated her employees concerning social insurance benefits. Claims suggest that while managers like A were allegedly denied enrollment in the four major social insurances, Park Narae’s mother and ex-boyfriend were seemingly enrolled.

In an interview with Munhwa Ilbo on the same day these allegations became public, A elaborated on this point. She stated, “I worked with Park Narae starting in September of last year. I repeatedly asked her to enroll me in the four major social insurances, but she refused. Some people were enrolled—her mother, ex-boyfriend, and Park Narae herself.” This contrast in treatment has raised questions about fairness and adherence to labor laws.

As of the reporting, Park Narae’s representatives have not yet issued an official statement or response to these latest allegations.

Escalating Controversy and Previous Accusations

The current controversy stems from earlier accusations made public on the 4th, when former managers collectively accused Park Narae of power abuse. These initial complaints included allegations of assault and reported instances of embezzlement, with claims that company funds were allegedly misused for the benefit of her ex-boyfriend and others.

In response to these accusations, Park Narae reportedly filed a counter-complaint against her former managers, alleging blackmail. This tit-for-tat legal action has further intensified the public scrutiny surrounding the broadcaster.

Allegations of Illegal Medical Treatments and Proxy Prescriptions

The controversy took a more serious turn with additional allegations suggesting that Park Narae may have received illegal medical treatments and proxy prescriptions from an individual referred to as the “injection aunt.”

Lim Hyun-taek, the former head of the Medical Association, announced that he, along with the “injection aunt” and another individual identified as “B,” had jointly lodged a report against Park Narae with the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office. The report details alleged violations of the Medical Service Act and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.

The investigation is expected to focus on several key areas:

  • Qualification of “B”: A primary point of inquiry will be whether the individual referred to as “B” is a qualified medical professional, such as a doctor or a nurse, who is legally permitted to administer medical treatments.
  • Legality of House Calls: The legality of any house calls conducted for medical treatments will also be scrutinized. It is understood that house calls are only permissible under specific, exceptional circumstances.
  • Consequences of Violations:
    • If “B” is found to be unqualified, they could face severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million Korean won.
    • If house calls were conducted outside of a legitimate medical facility or without proper documentation, the individuals involved could be liable for a fine of up to 5 million Korean won.

The unfolding situation continues to draw significant public attention as investigations into these serious allegations proceed.
