Renewed Hope Football Arena: A Beacon for Youth

At the heart of the inauguration was the unveiling of the “Renewed Hope Football Arena.” Chairman Seyi Jakande, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, articulated his administration’s core vision, placing young people at the forefront of developmental initiatives.

“Today, we are not just celebrating projects; we are commemorating progress and recognising our youths as the pride and future of this LCDA,” Chairman Jakande stated. “This football pitch represents opportunity, discipline, unity, and hope for our young people.” He emphasised that the facility is more than just a sports ground; it is a platform designed to foster positive development and channel youthful energy into constructive pursuits.

A Multifaceted Approach to Community Development

Chairman Jakande highlighted that since assuming office, his administration has consistently focused on delivering tangible solutions to pressing community needs. A key innovation introduced by his administration is the implementation of stakeholders’ budget meetings. These meetings are conducted simultaneously across all wards, a strategic move designed to broaden public participation and ensure that community input directly influences government spending priorities. This participatory approach aims to foster a sense of ownership and accountability within the community.

Beyond the immediate focus on sports infrastructure, the Chairman took the opportunity to outline a comprehensive range of achievements across several critical sectors within the LCDA.

Key Achievements Across Sectors:

Healthcare Initiatives:

  • New Primary Healthcare Centre: A state-of-the-art primary healthcare centre has been constructed in the Kayode area, significantly improving access to essential medical services for residents.
  • Procurement of Ambulance: A fully equipped ambulance was acquired to enhance emergency medical response capabilities within the LCDA.
  • Free Medical Outreaches: Over 1,000 residents have benefited from free medical outreach programmes, providing crucial health screenings and treatments.
  • Ongoing Eye Care Services: In collaboration with an international foundation, the LCDA is providing free eye care services, including the distribution of eyeglasses and medication to nearly 1,000 beneficiaries.

Educational Support:

  • Free GCE Examinations: Students have been supported through free registration for GCE qualifying examinations.
  • Bursary Awards: Financial assistance in the form of bursary awards has been provided to tertiary students, easing the burden of educational expenses.
  • Support for Indigent Candidates: Special provisions have been made for registration fees for indigent candidates, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder educational aspirations.

Youth and Sports Development:

  • Modern Five-a-Side Football Field: The newly inaugurated “Renewed Hope Football Arena” offers a safe and modern environment for recreation and talent development.
  • “JAKO JOLLOF” School Feeding Programme: This initiative ensures that all primary school pupils receive nutritious meals, while simultaneously empowering 28 local food vendors.
  • Chairman’s Cup: The successful organisation of the Chairman’s Cup engaged approximately 800 players from 50 teams across five distinct categories, fostering healthy competition and community spirit.
  • SJ Football Competition: The inaugural SJ Football Competition was held to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, 2025, providing a platform for young athletes.
  • DFA Women’s League Sponsorship: The LCDA sponsored the DFA Women’s League, actively promoting gender balance and equal opportunities in sports.
  • Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities: The annual sports fiesta has been enhanced to ensure the active inclusion of persons with disabilities, promoting a more equitable sporting landscape.

Infrastructure and Utilities:

  • Borehole Construction and Rehabilitation: Boreholes have been strategically constructed or rehabilitated across all wards, addressing water accessibility challenges.
  • Road and Drainage Works: Ongoing road and drainage improvements are underway on several key streets, including Akala, Adedoja, Igbarere, and the Damengoro–Shokunbi axis, enhancing connectivity and mitigating flooding risks.

Enhancing Community Safety:

  • Joint Task Force: A collaborative security task force has been established, comprising representatives from police divisions, council enforcement teams, vigilante groups, and local hunters. This initiative aims to proactively curb crime and bolster overall community safety.

A Call for Collective Responsibility

During the unveiling of the new road projects, Chairman Jakande urged residents to view these facilities as shared assets that necessitate collective responsibility for their upkeep and sustainability. “These projects mark the beginning, not the end, of our work together,” he stated. “While we remain committed to transparency, routine audits, and quality control, the community must also help to protect and sustain these investments.” This message underscores the administration’s belief in a partnership approach to governance and development.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Audit, Dr. Oyeyemi Ayoola, present at the event, commended Chairman Jakande’s performance, describing his achievements within a short period as “remarkable.” Dr. Ayoola specifically cited the tangible projects and the effective governance demonstrated by the LCDA administration.
