Etincelles Snatch Late Draw Against Rayon Sports in League Encounter

In a hard-fought Rwanda Premier League fixture on Saturday, December 27, Etincelles FC managed to secure a crucial 1-1 draw against Rayon Sports. The match, held at Kigali Pele Stadium, saw the visiting Etincelles side come from behind to salvage a point against a dominant Rayon Sports outfit.

This encounter marked a significant moment for Rayon Sports, as it was the first league match under the stewardship of their newly appointed head coach, Bruno Ferry, who took the reins only last week. Despite the change in leadership, the team struggled to convert their dominance into a victory.

First Half Stalemate

The opening 45 minutes of the game were largely controlled by Rayon Sports. The home side dictated the tempo and created several opportunities, but their efforts were consistently thwarted by a resolute Etincelles defence. Etincelles, under the guidance of coach Djuma Masudi, maintained their tactical discipline, ensuring that the halftime whistle found the scoreboard still blank. Both teams headed into the break with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

Second Half Drama Unfolds

Following the interval, Rayon Sports intensified their offensive pressure, determined to break the deadlock. Their persistence paid off in the 50th minute when Burundian striker Asman Ndikumana found the back of the net. This goal, Ndikumana’s fourth of the current campaign, put Rayon Sports in a commanding position.

However, the lead proved to be short-lived. The goal served as a catalyst for Etincelles FC, who responded with renewed vigor. They began to push forward in search of an equalizer, and their efforts were rewarded in the 68th minute. A well-weighted assist from Sadjati Niyonkuru found Ayman Djabilu Ishimwe, who calmly slotted the ball home to level the score.

Late Chances Missed as Points are Shared

With the scoreline reset, Rayon Sports launched a desperate late surge to reclaim the lead and secure all three points. Several opportunities fell their way, with players like Tonny Kitoga, Gloire Tambwe, Richard Ndayisenga, and Paul Jesus Sindi all coming close to finding a winner. Despite their best efforts, none of them managed to hit the target, and Etincelles held firm, maintaining a compact defensive structure to see out the remainder of the game.

The draw means both teams will have to reflect on their performances and look ahead to their next league assignments. For Etincelles, securing an away point against a strong opponent will provide a significant morale boost, while Rayon Sports will be disappointed to have dropped points at home, especially in their coach’s first league outing.

Other League Action

Earlier in the day, also at Kigali Pele Stadium, SC Kiyovu and Amagaju FC played out a goalless draw, highlighting a day of tight contests in the Rwanda Premier League.

The league action is set to continue on Sunday, with Musanze FC scheduled to host Gorilla FC at Ubworoherane Stadium. Fans can anticipate further exciting encounters as the season progresses.
