Seremban has witnessed a remarkable achievement by an eight-year-old boy, V Vasanth Abhinandan, who has now been recognized in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for his extraordinary performance in karate. The Year Two student successfully executed a karate kata, which is a choreographed sequence of martial arts movements, on nails for 10 minutes. This impressive feat earned him the title of “Most Karate Kata Movements on Nails by a Child in 10 Minutes.”
What makes this accomplishment even more unique is that the idea of performing karate on spiked shoes came from Vasanth himself. He wanted to differentiate himself from other practitioners and showcase his creativity. His father, K Vasantha, 41, shared that his son trained for an entire year to perfect the movements using specially designed spiked shoes.
Vasantha, a school van driver, expressed pride in his son’s achievements. He mentioned that Vasanth, who currently holds a blue belt, is working on adding five more movements to qualify for the black belt.
In addition to this recent milestone, Vasanth made history earlier this year by setting a record in the Yoga Asia World Records. He achieved the longest single-leg standing in the children’s category.
The single father also highlighted another significant achievement—Vasanth won the karate kata title at an international sports championship in Kuala Lumpur last year. He was also awarded the 2024 Best Non-Games Sports Achievement Award by the Negeri Sembilan government.
Vasantha emphasized his goal of raising his son to be independent and disciplined. He believes that karate is more than just a sport; it serves as a shield for self-defense. He revealed that Vasanth had faced bullying before, and martial arts helped him gain the confidence to stand up for himself.
Vasanth shared his aspirations with great enthusiasm. He dreams of becoming a national athlete and representing Malaysia on the world stage.
“I’m proud to have created a name in MBR, and I hope one day I will be selected to represent the country and make my family and Malaysia proud,” he said.
His journey so far reflects not only his dedication but also his determination to excel in both karate and other areas. With each new achievement, Vasanth continues to inspire others, proving that age is no barrier to success. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity, and the importance of pursuing one’s passions.
