Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed high hopes for the future of Senne Lammens, the club’s new goalkeeper. He believes that within the next three years, Lammens could become one of the best in the world. This confidence comes after Lammens joined the Red Devils from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day in a £18 million deal. The move was made as part of an effort to address the ongoing issues in goal, which have been a major concern for the team this season.

Lammens, who is 23 years old, was initially kept on the bench for the first three games following his arrival. However, he finally made his debut against Sunderland on Sunday. His performance was impressive, helping United secure their first clean sheet of the season. In the first half, he made a smart stop to deny Granit Xhaka from a long-range shot. Later, he also managed to deny Chemsdine Talbi with a crucial save.

Although he wasn’t heavily tested during the match, Lammens’ assured performance earned him praise from the fans. They were particularly impressed by his confidence when coming off his line to claim crosses. The supporters even started chanting, “Are you Schmeichel in disguise?” highlighting their excitement about his potential.

Altay Bayindir had been the starting goalkeeper for the first six Premier League matches of the season. However, with Lammens now making a strong impression, it seems he is set to take over as the long-term number one. Amorim has shown great faith in Lammens, treating his integration into the team with what The Sun described as “almost paternal care.”

Amorim sees Lammens as the answer to the problem at the goal, comparing him to Thibaut Courtois. He is confident that the young Belgian will establish himself as the best in the world by 2028. Real Madrid star Courtois, who is also from Belgium, is believed to be offering advice to Lammens, helping him adapt to the demands of English football and the pressures of playing for such a big club at a young age.

Manchester United had also considered signing an experienced goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, agreeing on personal terms with the Aston Villa player in the final days of the summer transfer window. However, the club officials are now more convinced than ever that they made the right decision by bringing in Lammens. They were reportedly “blown away” by what they have seen from their new arrival.

After the win against Sunderland, Amorim praised Lammens’ performance, emphasizing the importance of keeping clean sheets in the Premier League. He mentioned that Lammens was solid under pressure and that the team worked well together. Amorim also expressed his satisfaction with the support Lammens received from the team and the fans.

“Keeping clean sheets is important in the Premier League. We had chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important,” Amorim said. “He was solid when we were under pressure. The option was Ben [Sesko], and we worked off that. I’m buzzing for him. Everyone was around him today. It can be tough making your first start, but we want to be together, and I felt that today. So we keep moving forward.”

Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as Lammens continues to develop. With the right guidance and consistent performances, there is a real possibility that he could fulfill Amorim’s vision and become one of the top goalkeepers in the world.
