During an interaction with journalists, the minister highlighted the smooth experience of the maiden flight and praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for delivering such a monumental project within a short timeframe. A Call for Inclusion in Hajj Operations

In addition to the minister’s praise, Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, the National President of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria, shared his positive experience during the return flight from Abuja. As a passenger on the ValueJet flight, he praised the airport’s facilities and called for its inclusion in Hajj operations.

Alhaji Apelogun urged the government to consider using the Gateway International Airport for the airlift of pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj. He emphasized that direct flights from the airport to Saudi Arabia would be beneficial for the community. His journey back from Abuja was described as fantastic, highlighting the airport as a significant achievement for the people of Ogun State.

He pointed out that the airport is the second-largest in Africa with the longest runway, spanning 4 kilometers. This makes it the first of its kind in Nigeria, boasting international-standard facilities.

Enhancing Socio-Economic Development

Alhaji Apelogun also spoke about the impact of the airport on the socio-economic development of Ogun State. He mentioned that the airport would create job opportunities and reduce the stress of traveling between major cities like Abuja and Lagos, or Lagos and Sagamu. The convenience of the airport was evident in his personal travel experience, as he noted that it takes no more than 10 minutes to reach Sagamu from the airport.

For frequent travelers like himself, who fly to Abuja two or three times a week, the airport offers a reliable and efficient mode of transport. Alhaji Apelogun expressed his gratitude to Governor Abiodun for this remarkable achievement, emphasizing that the airport will continue to be a preferred choice for passengers.

A Milestone in Nigerian Aviation

The Gateway International Airport stands as a milestone in Nigerian aviation, showcasing the potential for growth and development in the region. With its state-of-the-art facilities and strategic location, it is poised to play a crucial role in connecting Ogun State to the rest of the country and beyond.

As more travelers and officials recognize the benefits of this airport, its significance in the national and international aviation landscape is likely to grow. The continued support and investment in maintaining its infrastructure will be key to ensuring its long-term success and contribution to the economy.
