Earlier this year, DMG Media expanded its Irish language offerings with the launch of ExtraG Gach Seachtain, a weekly supplement available in the Irish Daily Mail. This initiative aims to bring the Irish language to a broader audience while meeting new legislative requirements and unlocking cultural and commercial opportunities.

The WAN-Ifra Awards are among the most respected accolades in the publishing and journalism sectors worldwide. This year’s ceremony celebrated leaders across three key categories: reader engagement, the fusion of print and digital, and advertising creativity.

ExtraG shared the Print-Digital Fusion Award with the Malaysian Straits Times. Organizers highlighted the significance of ExtraG Gach Seachtain, describing it as a bilingual print and digital supplement that brings the Irish language to life for the next generation of readers. They noted its role in meeting legislative requirements while fostering cultural and commercial growth.

Joe Walsh, editor of ExtraG and ExtraG Gach Seachtain, expressed his excitement about the award, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to celebrating and promoting the Irish language. He described the recognition as “truly fantastic” and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team behind the project.

Paul Henderson, CEO of DMG Media Ireland, praised the platform for delivering the most popular stories of the day through the Irish language. He added that the site presents news, entertainment, and sport in a modern and accessible format that appeals to a wide range of readers.

Mr. Henderson also emphasized that the content on ExtraG is what people want, delivered in a way that is both relevant and easy to understand. He highlighted the importance of making the Irish language more approachable and engaging for everyday users.

The awards were presented during the annual World Printers Summit, which took place in Munich this year. The 2025 awards recognized outstanding achievements in various areas of the media industry, with a particular focus on innovation and reader engagement.

ExtraG continues to play a vital role in the Irish media landscape, offering a unique blend of traditional and digital formats. Its success underscores the growing importance of multilingual content and the need for platforms that cater to diverse audiences.

As the media industry evolves, initiatives like ExtraG demonstrate how technology and tradition can come together to create meaningful and impactful content. The recognition from the WAN-Ifra Awards is a significant milestone for the platform and a promising sign for the future of Irish language media.
