Michelle Ackerley, a well-known presenter on Morning Live, has welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Nala Lomani Ryan. In a heartfelt message on social media, she shared the news with a photo of the newborn, writing, “Welcome to the world, Nala Lomani Ryan.” She added, “Our hearts couldn’t be more full.”

Michelle, who is 41 years old, has been a familiar face on television, hosting programs such as Crimewatch, The One Show, and Watchdog. She is married to Ben Ryan, who serves as the performance director for the Premier League football club Brentford. Ryan previously coached the England Rugby 7’s team and also led the Fiji team, which won a gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The name Nala has gained popularity in Western culture due to its association with Disney’s The Lion King. However, it carries significant meanings in various African cultures, including “queen,” “lion,” and “successful” in Swahili.

Michelle revealed her pregnancy on BBC One’s Morning Live show in May. During the broadcast, co-host Gethin Jones, 47, mentioned that she had “some news.” Michelle responded, “I have actually, yes. I know I still can’t quite believe it myself, really, very, very happy. It’s just come out slowly but surely. I am four months pregnant.”

This announcement came after Michelle had been open about her struggles with fertility. She has spoken publicly about her long journey with endometriosis, a condition that affects many women. In a social media post sharing the news, she expressed, “I wanted to share though as my journey with endometriosis and infertility is something I finally felt confident to start speaking about more openly last year – realising how many other women were going through similar experiences.”

She continued, “Feeling part of a community – especially when it comes to women’s health – can really make a difference. Even at the very start of this year, I was gearing up for yet another endometriosis procedure and trying to come to terms with the mental and physical impact they can have. It has been quite the emotional rollercoaster. The news of falling pregnant really came as a massive surprise to both of us. We still can’t quite believe it.”

Endometriosis is a chronic condition that causes severe pain during menstruation and can affect a woman’s ability to conceive. According to the NHS, endometriosis often develops in areas around the womb, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic lining. It can also spread to other organs like the bladder and bowel. Rarely, it may appear outside the pelvis, such as in the chest.

Symptoms of Endometriosis

During menstruation, patches of endometriosis break down and bleed, causing discomfort. Some common symptoms include:

  • Severe period pain that disrupts daily activities
  • Heavy bleeding requiring frequent changes of pads or tampons
  • Pain while urinating or defecating

Other symptoms may occur throughout the menstrual cycle, such as:

  • Pain in the lower abdomen and back
  • Pain during or after sexual intercourse
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Pain or bleeding in other areas, such as the chest, which can lead to shortness of breath and coughing up blood

Additionally, women with endometriosis may experience difficulty in getting pregnant and may suffer from low mood or anxiety.
