Angelina Jolie’s New Chapter: A Journey Beyond Los Angeles

Angelina Jolie has always been known for her strong personality and global perspective. She has never hidden her desire to move abroad once her children reach the age of 18. A recent report has provided more details about her plans, revealing that she is considering relocating to areas connected to her children.

Jolie is now legally single after her long divorce from Brad Pitt. According to an insider, she has experienced a shift in her life recently, feeling lighter and more at ease. The source said, “She’ll always love L.A., but she feels it has served its purpose. She’s ready for her next chapter.”

Another insider added, “She’s very excited for this next phase of her life.” This phase will likely begin in July, after her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turn 18. Jolie is expected to spend time in Cambodia, where she adopted her son Maddox, and also owns property. She may also be found in France and Africa, places close to her heart.

Her twins were born in Nice, France, and she adopted daughter Zahara from Ethiopia and gave birth to Shiloh in Namibia. The source said, “They’re all very special places. She has dear friends in all of [those areas] who she considers confidantes and family.”

A Global Perspective

Jolie’s decision to move abroad comes after she expressed concerns about the United States following a controversy involving Jimmy Kimmel’s show. She mentioned, “I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country.” Her international outlook has always been evident, with her family, friends, and life being deeply rooted in different parts of the world.

Jolie has also previously criticized Trump’s policies during his first administration. In an op-ed for The New York Times, she wrote, “We must never allow our values to become the collateral damage of a search for greater security.”

As a mother of six, Jolie shares Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne, with ex-husband Brad Pitt. After their split, she purchased a historic Los Feliz estate, which is located near their father.

“I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2019. She also mentioned that she would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as her children are 18.

A source recently told People that Jolie is eyeing several locations abroad and intends on selling the house and moving once her youngest children turn 18. Another source said, “She never wanted to live in L.A. full time but didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad.”

After reaching a settlement in their ugly divorce in December 2024, Jolie said, “She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”

A New Beginning

Jolie has previously spoken about her desire to leave Los Angeles in 2024, stating that she had to remain in California until her and Pitt’s six children all turned 18. She said, “I grew up in this town [Los Angeles]. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”

She continued, “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

After her youngest two children become legal adults, Jolie plans on spending “a lot of time in Cambodia” and visiting her “family members wherever they may be in the world.”

Jolie will join a number of other Hollywood stars who’ve left Los Angeles in recent years, including Natalie Portman, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres, and Portia de Rossi, among others.

In the meantime, the star is remaining busy with her thriving career in showbiz, which recently pivoted from Hollywood to Broadway.

She co-produced the show The Outsiders, a production based on S.E Hinton’s 1987 novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 coming-of-age crime drama. Last year it won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

“In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1967, Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade and their Greaser family of ‘outsiders’ battle with their affluent rivals, the Socs. THE OUTSIDERS navigates the complexities of self-discovery as the Greasers dream about who they want to become in a world that may never accept them. With a dynamic original score, THE OUTSIDERS is a story of friendship, family, belonging…and the realization that there is still ‘lots of good in the world,’ according to the show’s website.

In a conversation with the musical’s director Danya Taymor, Jolie reflected on how the storyline has resonated with audiences around the world. “Somebody said, ‘You know, this is a uniquely American story.’ But I have also found it extraordinary how much the story has resonated globally,” she explained in the video, obtained by People.

“It’s what we have in common. Everywhere in the world has something that has challenged those neighborhoods, those families, those people, where you’re wondering your place and where communities or class systems put people against each other and have made them feel very different and very separate.”
