Nigerian Boxing Star Odunayo Ayanwale Set for UK Debut in Historic York Hall Clash

Nigerian female boxing sensation Odunayo Ayanwale is poised to make her highly anticipated United Kingdom debut on January 24, 2026. The burgeoning talent will step into the iconic York Hall in London, a venue steeped in boxing history, to face a formidable opponent in an international challenge.

Ayanwale, who boasts a professional record of two wins and one loss, turned professional in November 2024. Her upcoming bout will see her compete in a six-round, two-minute per round International female light-welterweight Challenge against the undefeated British boxer Charlie Brown, who holds an unblemished record of five wins.

The confirmation of this significant international outing came from Remi Aboderin, Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC). Aboderin revealed that William Storey, a promoter licensed by the British and Irish Boxing Authority, extended the invitation to Ayanwale for this prestigious fight at the renowned venue located at 5 Old Ford Road, London E2 9PJ.

“Contracts have been signed, and we are pleased to see another Nigerian boxer getting international exposure,” Aboderin stated. “Odunayo has shown tremendous promise since turning professional last year, and this fight in the UK is a great opportunity for her to test herself against a foreign opponent.”

The NBBofC has been actively working to secure global platforms for Nigerian boxers, a mission highlighted by the upcoming Ayanwale fight. Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, President of the NBBofC, expressed his pride in the board’s dedication to this objective.

“This is exactly what we are working towards at the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, getting our fighters exposure on the international stage,” Oladipo remarked. “Odunayo is a talented young boxer, and we believe she has what it takes to succeed in the UK. We will continue to support our boxers in securing these opportunities abroad.”

Ayanwale herself is brimming with anticipation for the challenge. Her professional career, though short, has already showcased her power, with two of her three victories coming by way of knockout.

“I am very happy and grateful for this opportunity to fight in the United Kingdom,” Ayanwale shared. “This has been my dream, to fight internationally and show what Nigerian female boxers can do. I have been training very hard, and I know this is my chance to prove myself on a bigger stage. I want to make Nigeria proud and show that we have world-class female boxers.”

The Nigerian contingent is fully invested in Ayanwale’s success. Her coach, Ademola Adedolapo, indicated that the team is diligently preparing for the bout, focusing on earnest training to ensure Ayanwale is in peak condition.

Olayinka Akeem, Ayanwale’s manager, extended his gratitude to the NBBofC for its instrumental role in facilitating such international exposure for Nigerian boxers.

“We are grateful to the Dr. Rafiu Oladipo-led Nigerian Boxing Board of Control for the way the board has been steering professional boxing activities in Nigeria and getting our boxers international exposure,” Akeem said.

Meanwhile, Charlie Brown will be aiming to preserve her undefeated professional record when she faces Ayanwale. The British boxer has a perfect track record and will be looking to continue her winning streak against the ambitious Nigerian challenger in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
