Governor JB Pritzker’s $1.4 Million Las Vegas Win Sparks Controversy
Illinois’ billionaire governor, JB Pritzker, recently revealed that he won an impressive $1.4 million during a trip to Las Vegas last year. The Democratic leader, who is considering a third term in office, disclosed the winnings in his latest tax filings and addressed the matter at a press conference on Thursday.
“I was incredibly lucky,” Pritzker said, adding, “anyone who has played cards in a casino knows that you often play for too long and lose whatever it is that you’ve won. I was fortunate enough to have to leave before that happened.”
With an estimated net worth of $3.9 billion, Pritzker has pledged to donate all of his gambling earnings to charity. According to reports, the governor has also founded a poker charity tournament that has raised millions for the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
The governor and his wife, MK, reported a total income of $10.6 million in the previous year, with $4.2 million coming from capital gains. They paid approximately $1.6 million in federal taxes and $512,120 to the state. Additionally, they donated $3.3 million to charitable organizations.
Despite his vast wealth, Pritzker has not taken a salary since assuming his role in 2019. However, his recent gambling success has drawn criticism from some state leaders, who argue that it highlights his perceived detachment from everyday citizens.
Republican State Representative CD Davidsmeyer commented, “I feel like the governor’s got to be one of the luckiest people on the planet. Born into billions, comes into office after some of the more difficult times we’ve ever had, falls right into a bucket of Covid money and all sorts of other bail-out money and then heads off to Vegas for a weekend and makes $1.4 million.”
Another Republican representative, Jeff Keicher, echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that Pritzker has increased state taxes over the years. “How can that be? How? Yes, I understand things go up over time, but the disconnect with reality,” Keicher said. “The disconnect for not knowing what a zero balance means in a checking account—I don’t trust billionaires.”
The controversy surrounding Pritzker’s Las Vegas win comes as the governor faces off against former President Donald Trump over ICE raids in Illinois. The two leaders have been locked in a dispute regarding the deployment of the National Guard to Chicago to manage protests related to ICE operations.
Trump has even gone as far as to call for Pritzker to be jailed for “failing to protect ICE officers” in a recent post on Truth Social. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) criticized Pritzker after the arrest of Radule Bojovic, an illegal alien from Montenegro who was working as a sworn police officer in Hanover Park, Illinois.
“Governor JB Pritzker doesn’t just allow violent illegal aliens to terrorize Illinois’s communities, he allows illegal aliens to work as sworn police officers,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated.
