Courtroom Outburst Leads to Defendant’s Removal
A defendant accused of involvement in a terrorist plot targeting Jewish communities in the UK was removed from the courtroom following an outburst on Thursday morning. The incident occurred during the ongoing trial of Amar Hussein, who is charged alongside Walid Saadaoui for planning acts of terrorism.
According to reports, Saadaoui and Hussein were alleged to have plotted to “kill as many Jews as possible.” The prosecution claims that the two men had plans to attack a mass gathering of Jewish people with the assistance of a third party named “Farouk,” who was later revealed to be an undercover operative.
During the trial, Farouk testified about his correspondence with Saadaoui, which led to an outburst from Hussein. The judge, Mr. Justice Wall, warned Hussein, stating, “Either you be quiet or you go down.” When Hussein responded with, “I don’t want to listen to this s***,” the judge ordered him to be removed from the court. The trial continues without his presence.
Charges of Terrorism and Weapon Procurement
The trial accuses both Saadoui and Hussein of intending to commit acts of terrorism. This includes arranging the purchase and delivery of firearms, conducting reconnaissance, and making detailed plans for attacks. The prosecution has already informed the court that Saadaoui had access to weapons such as assault rifles used in the 2015 Paris terror attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 130 people. They also claim that more weaponry was being awaited to support a potential deadly attack.
The prosecutor further stated that Saadaoui “hero-worshipped” Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the mastermind behind the Paris attacks, and aimed to replicate his actions. This claim adds another layer of severity to the charges against the defendants.
Denial of Charges by Defendants
Despite the serious allegations, both Saadoui and Hussein have denied the charges. During the prosecution’s opening statements, Hussein interrupted when the prosecutor mentioned that “Untold harm was precisely what Walid Saadaoui had planned to cause, together with the defendant Amar Hussein.” In response, Hussein shouted, “How many babies?”
Hussein was temporarily removed from the court for the rest of the prosecution’s opening statements but was allowed to return until Thursday. However, his recent outburst led to his removal, highlighting the tense nature of the trial and the emotional responses from the defendants.
