Escalation of Violence in El Fasher

On October 11, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, where at least 60 civilians were killed and dozens injured after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled a displacement shelter. Eyewitnesses and medical sources reported the devastating attacks that took place on Friday and Saturday.

The RSF has been conducting continuous attacks on civilian targets in El Fasher, utilizing artillery and drones to destroy markets, water sources, and health facilities. Residents have described the ongoing violence as relentless, with periodic raids on displacement sites resulting in killings, arrests, and forced displacements.

A drone strike by the RSF on Saturday targeted the Dar al-Arqam school, leading to the deaths of 37 civilians, some of whom were burned to death inside the classrooms. Mohamed Khamis Douda, a spokesperson for the displaced at Zamzam camp, shared this information with Sudan Tribune.

Douda also mentioned that the same center was hit by artillery fire on Friday evening. The shells targeted underground shelters where displaced people sought refuge, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 individuals. Witnesses described the attack involving drones and heavy artillery, which destroyed large parts of the center, housing hundreds of displaced people, mostly women, children, and the elderly.

Survivors recounted that a drone fired four missiles. Two missiles struck shelters directly on Friday evening, killing 30 people and destroying the structures completely. When some tried to flee to another part of the center, the drone pursued them, firing two more missiles at dawn on Saturday and killing another 37 people, survivors added.

The total death toll from the two attacks reached at least 67, with more than 40 wounded. Due to the dangerous security situation, some bodies remain unburied, highlighting the severity of the crisis.

Dire Humanitarian Conditions

The remaining residents of El Fasher face dire humanitarian conditions, with many forced to live in underground shelters or large metal containers to protect themselves from constant bombardment. The Dar al-Arqam center houses over 150 displaced families who face severe shortages of food, water, and medical care amid the fighting.

This attack follows a separate incident on October 7, when RSF fighters killed several displaced people at the Abu Talib school shelter, according to reports. That ground attack came after the center was hit by more than ten artillery shells and a drone strike, which killed over 15 people and wounded dozens.

Military Claims and Ongoing Conflict

Military sources claim the RSF is targeting shelters and civilian gathering places like mosques and hospitals to force the remaining residents to flee El Fasher. This strategy appears to be part of a broader effort to control the region and displace the local population.

As the conflict continues, the international community is urged to pay attention to the escalating violence in North Darfur. The humanitarian crisis is worsening, and the need for immediate intervention and support is critical. The resilience of the displaced communities is being tested, and without external assistance, the situation could deteriorate further.

The attacks on civilian infrastructure and displacement centers reflect a pattern of violence that threatens the lives and well-being of countless individuals. As the world watches, it is essential to advocate for peace, protection, and the rights of those affected by this ongoing conflict.
