Washington has witnessed a remarkable moment in the legacy of Jane Goodall, who recently passed away at the age of 91. In a posthumous interview that aired on Netflix, she expressed her strong opinions about several high-profile figures, including Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Benjamin Netanyahu. According to her, these individuals would be the perfect candidates for a one-way trip to space.
The interview, which was part of the show “Famous Last Words,” has sparked widespread attention online. The clips have gone viral, amassing millions of views. While many have praised Goodall’s boldness, others have criticized her remarks, leading to discussions about the authenticity of the footage. Some even questioned whether the content was generated using artificial intelligence. However, Netflix clarified that Goodall recorded the interview in March with the understanding that it would only be released after her passing.
During the interview, host Brad Falchuk asked Goodall if there were people she disliked. She responded by sipping a glass of whiskey, a ritual she used to keep her voice steady before speaking.
“Absolutely, there are people I don’t like, and I would like to put them on one of Musk’s spaceships and send them all off to the planet he’s sure he’s going to discover,” she said.
Elon Musk, known as the world’s richest person, has dedicated his life to the mission of colonizing Mars and making humanity a “multiplanetary species.” Goodall added that Musk would be the host of this hypothetical journey, and she humorously suggested who might be on board.
“Along with Musk would be Trump, and some of Trump’s real supporters, and then I would put Putin in there, and I would put President Xi — I’d certainly put Netanyahu in there, and his far-right government. Put them all on that spaceship and send them off.”
The conversation then shifted to the topic of aggression in chimpanzees and whether the men she had named could be considered “alphas.” Goodall explained that among chimps, there are two types of alpha: those who rely on brute force and burn out quickly, and those who build alliances and endure. Her research convinced her that aggression is innate to both chimps and humans, given their nearly identical DNA.
“But I truly believe that most people are decent,” she said.
Goodall closed the interview with a message of hope and a warning to those who would harm “Mother Nature.” She urged viewers to think about the impact of their daily actions on the planet and future generations.
“If you want to save what is still beautiful in this world, if you want to save the planet for the future generations, your grandchildren, their grandchildren, then think about the actions you take each day,” she said.
She also shared her belief in life beyond death, stating that “consciousness survives.”
“I can’t tell you what you will find when you leave planet Earth, but I want you to know that your life on planet Earth will make some difference in the kind of life that you find after you die.”
