Manchester United Faces Injury Setback Ahead of Everton Clash

Manchester United is facing an injury concern ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Everton, as Matheus Cunha was forced to miss a planned appearance to switch on Christmas lights in Altrincham. The Brazilian forward sustained a minor knock during training and was advised to stay home for the evening.

Cunha had been scheduled to join Sam Aston, the winner of Dancing on Ice 2025 and actor who plays Chesney in Coronation Street, for the event. However, just hours before the ceremony, organisers Visit Altrincham announced that Cunha would not be able to attend due to medical reasons.

“Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons,” the statement read. “There’s lots of exciting performances to come including Luzahnn of Livin’ Joy and Sam Aston, winner of Dancing on Ice 2025, who is Chesney in Coronation Street will be switching on the lights.”

Although the injury is not serious, it has caused some disappointment among fans who were looking forward to seeing Cunha at the event. The setback could also impact manager Ruben Amorim’s plans for the match against Everton. Cunha was expected to lead the line in the absence of Benjamin Sesko, who has been ruled out due to a knee injury.

Sesko suffered a setback during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham, with Amorim initially fearing a serious knee problem. While the manager downplayed the concerns, he confirmed that Sesko is expected to be out for the next few weeks. This means that Cunha may have to step up as a key player in the coming matches.

Cunha has been a consistent presence for Manchester United this season, featuring in all but one of the club’s Premier League matches. He has started eight times and has become an important part of Amorim’s squad since his £62.5 million move from Wolves in the summer. Despite scoring only one goal so far, his performances have been impressive, showing his potential to make a significant impact.

In addition to Cunha’s injury, centre-back Harry Maguire is also expected to miss the game against Everton. However, there is some positive news as Kobbie Mainoo is in contention to return to the squad.

Key Players and Their Roles

  • Matheus Cunha: A crucial player for Manchester United, Cunha has been a reliable presence in attack. His recent injury is a setback, but he is expected to recover in time for future matches.
  • Benjamin Sesko: The £73.7 million signing has faced injury issues, which has limited his impact so far. His absence adds pressure on other forwards to perform.
  • Harry Maguire: The centre-back is likely to miss the Everton game, which could affect the team’s defensive stability.
  • Kobbie Mainoo: The young midfielder is in contention to return, offering a boost to the squad.

With these developments, Manchester United will need to adapt quickly to ensure they maintain their five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League. The team’s ability to cope with injuries and maintain consistency will be crucial in their upcoming fixtures.
