NFL Investigates Baltimore Ravens’ Handling of Lamar Jackson’s Practice Participation

The National Football League (NFL) is currently investigating the Baltimore Ravens’ management of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation, following his recent decision to sit out Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Jackson, a two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), was ruled out on Saturday, and it was revealed that he did not fully participate in Friday’s practice.

In a statement, the Ravens clarified their position: “Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Bears. Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn’t take starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation.”

This change in status has prompted the NFL to launch an investigation, as it typically does when there are changes in a player’s status. According to league policy, full participation means a player must complete 100% of their normal repetitions during practice. For example, a player who participates with the scout team during the team portion of practice would still be considered limited if their usual reps would have been with the starters due to their injury.

Impact on the Ravens’ Season

Baltimore, currently sitting at 1-5, has little room for error after a difficult start to the season. The Ravens have struggled without Jackson, losing games against the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Rams. Even an open date last weekend wasn’t enough to get Jackson back on the field.

With Jackson sidelined, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley is expected to start in his place. Huntley will step in after Cooper Rush took over in previous games against the Texans and Rams. The shift in starting quarterbacks could significantly affect the team’s performance, especially in high-stakes matchups.

Betting Implications

Shortly after Jackson’s ruling out, BetMGM Sportsbook listed the Ravens as a 1 1/2-point favorite over the Bears. Earlier in the week, the Ravens were favored by about a touchdown, suggesting that the betting odds have shifted due to the uncertainty surrounding Jackson’s availability.

Despite these changes, some analysts believe the situation isn’t related to gambling. Albert Breer from Monday Morning Quarterback wrote online, “The Ravens’ handling of the injury reporting on Lamar Jackson, I’m fully confident, wasn’t related to gambling in any way, shape or form. But it does highlight the trouble with the league doing business with gambling outlets.”

Questions Surrounding Jackson’s Status

As Jackson takes a precautionary rest, several questions remain about the team’s future:

  • Who is leading the Ravens in practice, and what does this mean for their Super Bowl hopes?
  • With the Ravens’ playoff aspirations on the line, will Lamar Jackson’s absence from practice prove costly against the Broncos?
  • Will Lamar Jackson’s mysterious absence impact the Ravens’ Super Bowl dreams, or are fans blowing his injuries out of proportion?
  • Will Lamar Jackson’s worrying leg injury sideline him for the Ravens’ crucial game against the Texans?
  • With Lamar Jackson’s uncertain status, will the Ravens’ clash against the LA Rams become a litmus test for their season recovery?

These concerns underscore the challenges the Ravens face as they navigate a critical part of the season. The outcome of these games could determine whether the team can turn their fortunes around and make a meaningful run in the playoffs.
