A Unique Opportunity for Malaysians to Support National Athletes
Nothing unites Malaysians and inspires patriotic zeal like our national athletes in the arena battling for victory. This spirit of unity and pride has been the driving force behind a recent initiative by Eco-Shop, a budget household products retailer, which is sponsoring a trip to the SEA Games Thailand 2025 for 45 people. This exciting opportunity aims to bring Malaysians together to support their athletes on an international stage.
Eco-Shop is collaborating with the Famemas Malaysia Sports Supporters Club, which will lead the cheering squad at the event. The sponsorship is open to Eco-Shop’s customers, making it an inclusive way for everyone to be part of this memorable experience.
The idea was sparked during a chance meeting between Eco-Shop’s chief executive officer and executive director, Jessica Ng, and the president of Famemas, Lee Hui Seng, during a recent trip to Bangkok. Ng shared that while Eco-Shop is known for its affordable household products, the company wanted to be part of something bigger and more meaningful.
At the Letter of Intent signing ceremony between Eco-Shop and Famemas in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, Eco-Shop general manager Stella Soon was also present. Lee highlighted that the club has attended various international sporting events over the last three decades, emphasizing the dedication of Famemas members to cheering on Malaysian athletes and highlighting their achievements.
“As someone who has cheered for our athletes from the stands for years, I can tell you that they truly feel the difference when Malaysians show up for them,” said Lee.
Praising the initiative, former National Sports Institute chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz emphasized the importance of supporters at sporting events. “Their words and the chanting give the athletes that extra push and encouragement to do their best,” said Dr Ramlan.
Several former athletes and gold medalists from various tournaments, including Datuk Foo Kok Keong, Noraseela Khalid, Chai Fong Ying, and R. Puvaneswaran, were also present at the ceremony. They shared their experiences from being in the arena, offering insights into the impact of fan support on athletes’ performances.
To participate in the contest and win the trip, customers must spend a minimum of RM35 in a single receipt. After purchasing, they need to scan the QR code on the receipt and fill in their details before uploading the proof of purchase. Entry is exclusively through the QR code, and the contest will end on October 26.
This initiative not only provides an unforgettable experience for lucky participants but also reinforces the importance of community support in sports. By encouraging Malaysians to come together and cheer for their athletes, Eco-Shop and Famemas are creating a powerful platform for national pride and unity.
