At the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, DC, the 32-year-old star shared a powerful quote from the 35-year-old pop icon: “If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
This statement has deeply influenced Selena, who emphasized the importance of surrounding herself with incredible people. “You just have to learn and not be afraid of all the things that you might lose out on,” she explained. She praised Taylor as “one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met” and highlighted her strength and consistent guidance.
Gomez also reflected on their enduring friendship, noting that “I’m not sure what I would say I’ve done for her other than been there as a friend.”

The Rare Beauty founder has also been preparing for a major role in David O. Russell’s untitled biopic about 11-time Grammy winner Linda Ronstadt. Selena, who is executive producing the film, has been shedding weight for the part.
