Shane Filan’s Moment of Embarrassment During Westlife Performance
Shane Filan, a member of the iconic Irish boyband Westlife, found himself in an unexpected situation during a recent performance. On Friday night, he forgot the lyrics to the group’s brand new single, “Chariot,” which is part of their greatest hits album titled 25.
The performance took place on Ireland’s Late Late Show, where Shane was joined by Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne. However, Mark Feehily, another key member, was notably absent from the show. As the group performed the new single, Shane struggled to recall a verse and had to improvise on the spot.
Although the audience didn’t seem to notice the mistake, host Patrick Kielty pointed it out during the interview that followed. He humorously remarked, “You also surprised the two boys tonight with your new single!” In response, Shane joked about his “new rendition” and explained, “So it was the world premiere of Chariot, but the second verse I actually sang the wrong line.”

He continued, “I actually made up a line tonight. I’m going to blame Mark on it because it’s Mark’s verse, but yeah. So I’m reading through it and I’m going, ‘What’s the line?’, and then it didn’t come to me at all. Sometimes you just got to improvise. And I knew it was coming, but it was fun.”
Despite Mark’s absence from the performance, his vocals are still featured on the new track. However, due to ongoing health issues, he will not be appearing on Westlife’s London shows at the Royal Albert Hall or the 25th anniversary world tour.
Shane provided an update on Mark this week, stating, “He’s unable to join the tour unfortunately as he’s mentioned already, but being on the new song is very important… He’s still a member of this band obviously, and he’s sounding great on the new songs. We’ve got four new songs and an album coming out after Christmas… A greatest hits compilation with four new songs, but the new song that’s out next Friday is a really upbeat tune, and it’s great to have him on there.”
Excitement Over Westlife’s World Tour Announcement
Westlife’s announcement of their world tour has sent fans into a frenzy this week. A teaser video was released on Instagram, featuring an airport departures board. This nod to their 2000 single “My Love,” in which the group is stranded in an airport, has sparked excitement among fans.

Additionally, the teaser includes a reference to their second studio album, Coast To Coast, as the bottom of the shutterboard reads “Coast To Coast Airlines.” The tour dates flicker across the screen, creating anticipation for what’s to come.
In a statement, Westlife shared, “This year marks 25 years since we started this incredible journey together, and it still feels like only the beginning… The support from our fans has been unbelievable, and to celebrate with this world tour, new music, and a brand-new album feels truly special. We can’t wait to see you all on the road and share this next chapter together.”
A Legacy of Music and Memories
Westlife first rose to fame in 1998 when they were formed in Dublin. The original lineup included Brian, who later left the group in 2004. The band captured the hearts of fans worldwide when they announced plans to disband in 2012 before pursuing solo careers.
However, a successful return in 2018 saw the group reform with the comeback single “Hello My Love” and the announcement of The Twenty Tour for 2019.

Last year, Mark announced his temporary departure from the band, just days before they were set to embark on their first ever tour of America. Prolonged ill-health led to his withdrawal from the band, as he was diagnosed with sepsis and needed time to recover.
Fans continue to express their support for Mark, hoping he will return to the stage when he is ready. In a heartfelt message, Westlife shared, “We hope he can join us back on stage when he is ready and able. He sends his love and positivity to you all as always.”
As Westlife prepares for their 25th anniversary celebrations, fans are eager to see what the future holds for the beloved group. With new music, an album, and special shows planned, the journey ahead promises to be exciting and unforgettable.
