A Mother’s Fight Against a Malignant Brain Tumour
Chloe Richmond, a 25-year-old mother from Halifax, West Yorkshire, has been given a devastating diagnosis that will prevent her from witnessing her only child turn three. Her journey began with years of migraines, which doctors initially attributed to the emotional stress of being orphaned at a young age.
At just 16, Chloe lost her father, Nick, to a heart attack in 2016. Three years later, her mother, Georgina, passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). These tragic events left deep emotional scars on Chloe, and she began experiencing severe headaches that affected both her vision and personality.
“I became really argumentative and angry with my husband,” Chloe shared. “Now I know these were all symptoms.”
Chloe married Joe in 2023, and they welcomed their son, Jonah, in October of the same year. However, her condition worsened over time, leading to frequent outbursts and jealousy, especially when Joe was watching TV. She would often believe he was looking at other women, which added to the tension in their relationship.
The situation escalated after an argument in September, prompting Chloe to move out and stay with her brother. During this time, she passed out and upon regaining consciousness, she was confused and couldn’t remember where she was or where her son was. Her family rushed her to the hospital, where a series of scans revealed a brain tumour.
Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary managed to remove most of the tumour, but Chloe was told that it is malignant and incurable on October 1—the day before Jonah’s second birthday. The news was heartbreaking for Chloe, who now faces the possibility of not seeing her son grow up.
The prognosis depends on the grade of the tumour. If it is a grade three tumour, she may have two years to live. However, if it is a grade four tumour, she could have less than a year left, and she will not see Jonah’s third birthday.
“I am heartbroken that I will not see my baby son grow up,” Chloe said. “But I am determined not to let my diagnosis define me.”
She draws strength from her late mother, who was brave during her illness, and wants to be the same. Her focus remains on Jonah, whom she describes as a beautiful little boy, and she wants to be there for him.
Despite the challenges ahead, Chloe is determined to make the most of the time she has left. She is focused on creating memories with her son and ensuring that he grows up knowing how much she loves him. Her story is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of cherishing every moment.
