A Heartfelt Victory on The Wheel
A contestant on The Wheel has captured the hearts of viewers after walking away with a life-changing £110,000. The game show, hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre, made a triumphant return to screens, bringing with it an exciting mix of trivia and high stakes.
This episode featured a lineup of celebrities who joined the contestants in answering a series of challenging questions. Among them were Roman Kemp, Katherine Ryan, Jill Scott, Joe Marler, Susan Wokoma, Layton Williams, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith. These stars provided support and guidance as the prize pool built up to £55,000.
Sally from Gateshead was given the opportunity to choose a celebrity to help her double the money. She opted for Joe Marler, a retired rugby player currently appearing on Celebrity Traitors. Despite his initial nerves, Sally managed to boost his confidence, and he agreed to take on the challenge.
Joe admitted he felt overwhelmed, saying, “I don’t want to do this. I feel sick!” However, with Sally’s encouragement, he gave it a try. During the episode, Sally shared her dreams of buying a van to convert into a campervan. “My partner Mark and I have a dream of buying a van to convert into a campervan. We’ve got all the equipment, but we are missing a vital component – which is the van,” she explained.
She also spoke about her battle with lung cancer five years ago. “My friends were absolutely amazing and were with me every step of the way. I also got the all-clear in March! So, I would love to treat them and pay them back.”
In the final part of the show, Sally faced three categories: vitamins, martial arts, and the beach. The final question revolved around martial arts, asking, “The Welsh athlete Jade Jones has won two Olympic gold medals in which martial art? Kickboxing, Judo, Taekwondo or Karate.”
With 30 seconds to discuss, Sally initially thought the answer was judo or taekwondo. She eventually settled on taekwondo, only to later doubt herself. “That can’t be right. This is ridiculous, isn’t it. It’s not it. It’s judo.” However, the correct answer was revealed, and Sally had won one of the biggest prizes in six seasons of the show.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Sally jumped up and started running around, hugging the celebrities who cheered and clapped. She then broke down into tears, questioning, “Did that just happen?” After a moment of silence, she cried while sharing, “We can get our van and go on adventures, and I can treat my friends and thank them.”
Michael McIntyre wrapped up the episode by saying, “Nothing is better than making someone as happy as we’ve made you. Well done.” Viewers took to social media to express their joy for Sally, with many calling her a well-deserved winner.
Sally’s win makes her the contestant to have won the second-largest amount on the show ever. In November 2022, Jonathan from Surrey took home £116,000.
