The world of American Football was recently abuzz with a rather unbelievable revelation: Terry Bradshaw, the legendary quarterback who steered the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl victories, has apparently never met Mike Tomlin, the Steelers’ head coach for the past 18 years. The admission, made during a recent Fox broadcast, has left fans scratching their heads and questioning how such a thing could be possible.

Bradshaw, now 77, was on air with Curt Menefee, Howie Long, and Michael Strahan when he dropped the bombshell. The Steelers had just secured a crucial win against the Baltimore Ravens, but the focus quickly shifted to the seemingly impossible fact that one of the franchise’s most iconic players has never crossed paths with one of its most successful coaches.

Social media erupted with disbelief.

  • One fan wrote, “Wait, Terry Bradshaw just said he has never met Mike Tomlin. How is that possible?”

  • Another commented, “Terry Bradshaw just said he has never met Mike Tomlin. No, that can’t be true.”

  • A third post read, “Did Terry Bradshaw just say he’s never met Mike Tomlin? If so, how is this possible, one of the franchise’s – and football’s – iconic players and sports personality has never crossed paths with one of its most decorated, respected head coaches?”

The sentiment was echoed by many, with some describing the situation as “wild” and others speculating about the underlying reasons for this apparent disconnect. Tomlin has been at the helm of the Steelers since 2007, leading them to a Super Bowl victory in 2009 and maintaining a consistently competitive team. The fact that Bradshaw, a Steelers icon, has never met him is, to say the least, perplexing.

Adding to the conversation is the increasing scrutiny surrounding Bradshaw’s performance on Fox’s NFL coverage. This season has seen a series of on-air gaffes and odd tangents, raising questions about his role and future with the network.

Last week, Bradshaw veered off-topic during a preview of the Bills-Steelers game, launching into a rambling discussion about airport security.

“Oh gosh. Folks, there are very few things that make me get nervous,” Bradshaw began, responding to Menefee’s question about the game. “I panic, I will panic, when I go through the airport later tonight… to get through the security line to kind of have… to kind of have a driver’s license, Howie and Michael,” he said, addressing his colleagues Strahan and Long in a somewhat incoherent manner. “Because y’all don’t do that. And you have to show that and they’re kind of looking at you and go, ‘OK Mr. Bradshaw, you can come in’. If I don’t have it, and a lot of times I don’t, I panic. Panic!”

He eventually circled back to the Bills-Steelers game, attempting to connect his airport anxiety to the pressure Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen would face against the Pittsburgh defense.

“Facing Pittsburgh today, if I’m Josh Allen, there’s panic written all over this,” Bradshaw stated. “Last week, sacked eight times, numerous hits. This is time to panic for Buffalo ’cause Pittsburgh is gonna’ be all in his stuff today.”

His colleagues, however, seemed less than impressed. Long quipped, “I see what you did there. I’ll tell you what you took a long while to get there.” Strahan added, “Every time you start your comments like that, I panic,” prompting laughter from Long.

This incident is just one example of Bradshaw’s recent on-air struggles. He also recently mispronounced the name of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, referring to him as “Njigboo” during a discussion about the receiver’s impressive 63-yard touchdown. Strahan quickly corrected him, pointing out the correct pronunciation of “Njigba.” Bradshaw’s response was simply, “That’s what I said. Something like that.”

These incidents, coupled with the revelation that he has never met Mike Tomlin, have fueled a growing debate about Bradshaw’s role on Fox’s NFL coverage and whether it might be time for him to consider retirement. While Bradshaw remains a beloved figure in NFL history, his recent performances have raised concerns about his ability to effectively contribute to the broadcast. The situation involving Tomlin adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing discussion, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for both Bradshaw and the Steelers franchise.
