Marconi.NG EPC Limited: Powering Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Renaissance with Cost-Competitive Engineering Solutions

Marconi.NG EPC Limited, formerly the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) division of Eni/Saipem, has announced its robust readiness to spearhead cost-effective and rapidly deployed engineering projects. This strategic positioning aims to invigorate Nigeria’s oil and gas sector by attracting new investments and significantly reducing operational expenses across the upstream landscape, aligning directly with the Federal Government’s ambitious economic agenda.

The company’s commitment was underscored during a recent facility tour conducted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for members of the press at Marconi’s expansive Rumuolumeni Yard in Port Harcourt. Gian Fabio Del Cioppo, Chief Executive Officer of Marconi, articulated the company’s strategic vision, emphasizing its prime location and enhanced capabilities following the acquisition of Saipem Contracting Nigeria’s assets in 2025. This move positions Marconi as a formidable contender for a leading EPC role throughout West Africa.

“Our Rumuolumeni facility is a testament to our extensive capabilities,” stated Del Cioppo. “Spanning over one million square metres, it boasts a substantial 330-metre jetty and possesses the capacity to fabricate in excess of 25,000 tonnes of heavy structures annually.” He further elaborated on the company’s comprehensive resources: “We possess the state-of-the-art equipment, a rich legacy of expertise, and the highly skilled human capital necessary to deliver projects of the utmost quality, all while adhering to competitive cost structures and stringent timelines. This operational excellence is fully in sync with the Presidential Directives on Local Content and the NOGICD Act.”

Del Cioppo also issued a strong appeal to both the government and industry operators, urging them to maintain unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Content framework. He cautioned against any potential policy reversals, highlighting the substantial economic benefits already reaped through local content initiatives. “Local content has demonstrably delivered immense value to our national economy,” he asserted. “It is imperative that the government resists any pressures to dilute or reverse the significant progress achieved over the past fifteen years. Marconi stands ready and eager to contribute to national objectives, fostering job creation and driving sustainable economic growth.”

A Deep Dive into Marconi’s Capabilities

During the NCDMB-facilitated tour, officials and journalists were granted an in-depth inspection of the company’s critical operational zones, including fabrication areas, extensive storage yards, and efficient load-out points. Dr. David Editang, Nigerian Content Manager, highlighted Marconi’s dedication to nurturing local talent, noting that the company has retained a core group of highly experienced Nigerian experts who have been instrumental in managing the yard’s operations for decades.

“Our facility is equipped to seamlessly handle fabrication, storage, and the load-out of completed structures, facilitated by our three operational jetties,” explained Editang. He also shared recent achievements, including the successful First Steel Cutting Ceremony for subsea structures destined for a significant offshore project, underscoring the company’s active role in ongoing major developments.

The Rumuolumeni Yard has a distinguished track record, having played a pivotal role in the successful execution of several landmark projects that have significantly shaped Nigeria’s energy infrastructure. These include:

  • Egina Project: A cornerstone of deepwater oil production in Nigeria.
  • Usan Project: Another vital deepwater development contributing to national energy output.
  • Akpo Project: A significant contributor to Nigeria’s oil and gas reserves and production.
  • NLNG Train 7: A critical expansion of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas complex, crucial for global energy supply.

NCDMB’s Role in Fostering Local Capacity

Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager of the Corporate Communications Division at NCDMB, emphasized that the tour was a direct manifestation of the Board’s mandate as outlined in Sections 67 and 70(n) of the NOGICD Act. These sections empower the NCDMB to actively promote Nigerian Content and foster robust engagement with all stakeholders within the industry.

“By showcasing companies like Marconi, we are diligently fulfilling our responsibility to build indigenous capacity and deepen the broader understanding of the intricate workings of the oil and gas industry,” Ezeobi stated. He further stressed the indispensable role of the media: “The media are critical stakeholders in this ecosystem, and we are committed to strengthening this relationship to ensure more informed and accurate reportage of industry developments.”

Ezeobi concluded by reiterating Marconi’s enhanced strategic position. The company is now exceptionally well-equipped to offer its services across the entire oil and gas value chain, from onshore and swamp environments to the challenging complexities of deep offshore operations. This comprehensive capability ensures Marconi can meet diverse project needs, further solidifying its importance in Nigeria’s evolving energy sector.
