Seplat Energy Achieves Major Milestone with Offshore Gas Processing Upgrade
Lagos, Nigeria – Seplat Energy has successfully completed a significant upgrade to its offshore operations with the replacement of the Inlet Gas Exchanger (IGE) module on the East Area Project (EAP) platform, situated in OML 67. This critical capital project, integral to the Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) extraction process, was executed on budget and represents a key achievement for the company’s offshore portfolio in 2025.
The EAP complex has demonstrated robust performance post-restart, operating in line with expectations. Notably, NGL sales volumes at EAP experienced a significant surge in late November. Gross NGL sales volumes more than doubled, reaching approximately 6,850 barrels of oil equivalent per day (bopd). This represents a substantial increase from the 3,360 bopd recorded in the nine months leading up to September 30, 2025. On a net working interest basis, this translates to an increase from around 1,720 bopd to approximately 3,500 bopd. Seplat Energy anticipates further improvements, with NGL sales volumes projected to climb to around 11,000 bopd (approximately 5,700 bopd net working interest) in the coming months as the facility optimizes its operational efficiency.
The comprehensive project involved a complex series of activities, including load-out, lifting, installation, tie-in, commissioning, and start-up. These operations were meticulously managed over a six-week period, culminating in their completion in November 2025. The undertaking required over 2.2 million man-hours of work, all of which were executed safely, without a single incident, and to the highest industry standards.
Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy, expressed his satisfaction with the project’s successful conclusion. “We are pleased to have completed the first major capital project on our offshore operations on budget,” Brown stated. “The replacement of the IGE unit on our EAP platform builds upon the success of our idle well recovery program. This initiative is part of our strategy for near-term production growth catalysts on the offshore assets that we acquired in December 2024.”
Brown further elaborated on the strategic importance of the new IGE unit. “The new IGE unit is critical to efficient NGL processing operations. NGLs, particularly pentane, represent some of the highest margin barrels produced in our portfolio. The butane we produce is being sold directly into the domestic market, thereby improving energy access and supporting the drive towards clean cooking solutions for Nigeria.”
The successful execution of this vital project underscores the calibre of Seplat Energy’s project and operations teams. It also highlights the strong collaborative spirit with partners and the continued support from local communities. This achievement reaffirms Seplat Energy’s unwavering commitment to driving growth in its offshore operations, a commitment that is poised to deliver substantial value for Nigeria and all its stakeholders.
The upgrade is expected to bolster Seplat’s position in the NGL market and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s energy landscape by enhancing domestic supply and promoting cleaner energy alternatives. The company’s focus on strategic offshore development signals its ambition to be a leading energy provider in the region.
