The total number of individuals released in this final phase amounts to 130, encompassing all remaining students and school personnel who were taken. The police authorities have pledged to keep the public informed of any further pertinent details as the situation evolves.

This incident has been a source of significant concern. The students of St. Mary Catholic School were initially abducted on November 21st. Following the abduction, security forces immediately launched intensive operations aimed at their safe recovery. These sustained efforts bore fruit on December 8th, when an initial group of approximately 100 students was successfully rescued.

The rescue of the first contingent was a moment of relief and was overseen at the highest levels of government. Governor Umar Bago was instrumental in receiving the first batch of about 100 freed students. This handover was facilitated through the office of the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, underscoring the collaborative national effort involved in resolving the crisis.

Governor Bago expressed his profound gratitude and commended the National Security Adviser and the various security agencies involved. He lauded their “gallant efforts” and acknowledged their pivotal role in achieving the successful rescue mission. The governor’s remarks highlighted the dedication and effectiveness of the security apparatus in bringing the abducted individuals back to safety.

The successful release of all 130 students and staff signifies a critical victory for the security forces and the state government in their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of educational institutions and their inhabitants. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges in certain regions, but also as a testament to the resilience and determination of those working to overcome them. The focus now shifts to supporting the recovered students and staff as they reintegrate into their community and continue their educational journey, free from the trauma of their abduction. The authorities remain vigilant, committed to preventing future occurrences and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens.
