Dhaka, Bangladesh – December 22, 2025 – In a critical directive issued ahead of the upcoming national elections, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining law and order across the nation at all costs. This firm stance was articulated during a high-level meeting convened on Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2025, at the state guest house Jamuna.

The extensive meeting, presided over by Professor Yunus himself, delved into a range of pressing issues. Among the key topics of discussion were the potential return of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh, and the comprehensive security arrangements being put in place for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Professor Yunus issued clear orders for the immediate apprehension of all individuals implicated in the murder of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi, as well as those involved in other illegal activities that threaten national stability. The swift and decisive action against perpetrators of violence and disorder was underscored as a non-negotiable requirement for a peaceful electoral process.

Review of National Security Landscape

The gathering provided a platform for a thorough review of the overall law and order situation prevailing in the country. Present at the significant meeting were Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Chowdhury, National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and senior officials from various security and law enforcement agencies. This collective participation highlighted the gravity with which the current security climate is being assessed.

Addressing Recent Acts of Violence and Arson

A particular focus of the deliberations was the recent spate of arson attacks targeting prominent media outlets and cultural organizations. The meeting reviewed the progress of investigations into these incidents, including the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for Inqilab Mancho and a figure described as a “July fighter.”

According to information provided by the police to the Chief Adviser, a total of 31 individuals have been identified through video footage as suspects in the recent attacks on the offices of two national dailies and two cultural organizations. As of Monday morning, at least six individuals have been arrested in connection with these incidents across various locations in the country, including the capital city, Dhaka.

The individuals apprehended so far have been identified as:

* Rakib Hossain
* Md Naeem
* Md Sohel Rana
* Md Shafiqul Islam

The police have confirmed that operations are actively underway to apprehend the remaining identified suspects.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed a separate incident where three individuals were identified through video footage for attempting to incite unrest near the residence of the Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chattogram. Security agencies are reportedly taking measures to address this matter as well. The coordinated efforts by law enforcement and security personnel are aimed at ensuring that such disruptive activities are not tolerated, especially in the sensitive period leading up to the elections.
