University branches of Turning Point USA are reporting a disturbing increase in harassment and intimidation tactics following the assassination of organization founder Charlie Kirk earlier this year. Kirk, a prominent conservative figure and ally of former President Donald Trump, was fatally shot on a college campus in September. The incident sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting widespread expressions of grief from political leaders across the spectrum.
However, for members of Turning Point USA, the aftermath has brought not only sorrow but also a heightened sense of vulnerability. Amy Rose Lombardo, a leader for Turning Point USA at Northern Arizona University, shared her experiences with escalating threats and aggressive behavior directed at the organization’s student representatives.
Escalating Intimidation Tactics
Lombardo described a noticeable shift in protest strategies, noting a rise in what she termed “dramatic” and unsettling demonstrations. One particularly chilling incident involved a woman approaching a Turning Point USA information table and leaving behind a graphic note.
- The Disturbing Note: The note contained a disturbing depiction of Charlie Kirk’s murder. It featured an image of blood dripping from the neck of a figure holding a microphone, accompanied by the inflammatory message, “only good Nazi is a dead Nazi.” This imagery and rhetoric underscore the intense animosity some individuals harbor towards conservative organizations.
Another unsettling event highlighted by Lombardo involved an individual who deliberately destroyed items displayed at a Turning Point USA table. According to Lombardo, the perpetrator approached the table, intentionally knocked over the materials, and then calmly walked away, even offering a smile. This deliberate act of vandalism and disrespect further illustrates the hostile environment some student groups are facing.
Standing Firm in Beliefs
Despite the rise in intimidating behavior, Lombardo expressed a resolute commitment to her political beliefs and the mission of Turning Point USA. She emphasized that the organization stands for truth and the courage to advocate for one’s convictions.
“Turning Point means truth and fighting for what you believe in,” Lombardo stated. “If we lose all hope, and we just give up on everything, then there’s no way that we’d be able to have a future in America.” Her words reflect a determination not to be silenced by the aggressive tactics employed by opponents.

Turning Point USA boasts a significant national presence, with nearly 800 chapters established at universities across the United States. The organization reported a surge in new sign-ups following Charlie Kirk’s death, indicating a continued engagement from students interested in conservative viewpoints.
A Call for Understanding and Forgiveness
In the face of these confrontations, Lombardo offered a message of compassion, stating that she prays for those responsible for the incidents. She stressed the importance of fostering an environment where political disagreements can exist without devolving into hatred and personal attacks.
“I hope they find their way out of the hatred that they let run their lives,” she articulated. “Because, at the end of the day, even though I disagree with those people, and they may disagree with me, I believe they are just extremely misguided. And they have just been lied to.” This perspective suggests a belief that many engaging in aggressive tactics are acting out of misinformation or a lack of understanding.
Lombardo’s sentiments resonate with the words of Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who spoke movingly at a memorial service. She shared her husband’s desire to positively influence young men, including those who might hold opposing views.

Erika Kirk extended forgiveness to the individual who took her husband’s life, stating, “I forgive him because it is what Christ did. The answer to hate is not hate.” This profound message of grace and the rejection of retaliatory hatred offers a stark contrast to the animosity expressed by some of those targeting Turning Point USA.
In the wake of the tragedy, former President Donald Trump honored Charlie Kirk, referring to him as a “martyr for American freedom” and “our greatest evangelist for American liberty.” Trump also posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing his significant influence and contributions to conservative discourse. The continuing intimidation faced by Turning Point USA chapters underscores the ongoing polarization and the challenges faced by conservative student organizations on college campuses.
