APC Leaders in Obokun Urge Unwavering Support for Governorship Candidate
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have issued a strong appeal to both state and national party leadership, calling for a unified front in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. This concerted effort is crucial as the party gears up for the August 8, 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
Oyebamiji, who secured the party’s nomination through a consensus arrangement that saw other aspirants graciously withdraw their ambitions, brings a wealth of experience to the campaign. He previously served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, a role that underscored his administrative capabilities.
Despite the apparent unity in Oyebamiji’s selection, underlying concerns persist within the party. There are indications that a segment of the membership may not be fully committed to the electoral process, potentially stemming from dissatisfaction with the outcome of the governorship primary. As political activities intensify, ensuring complete buy-in from all party faithful is paramount.
In response to these internal dynamics, the APC Leaders’ Forum in Obokun Local Government convened a meeting to address the path forward. The forum unanimously passed a resolution emphasizing the critical need for solidarity among all party members. They stressed that Oyebamiji’s victory at the polls is contingent upon unwavering and comprehensive support from the grassroots to the highest echelons of the party.
A Call for Unity and Strategic Mobilization
The forum’s resolute stance was articulated in a communiqué, jointly issued by its co-conveners, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye and Tunji Adesokun. The document, made available on Sunday in Osogbo, underscored the belief that a united APC, presenting a singular, formidable front, would ensure Oyebamiji’s triumph with minimal obstacles.
The communiqué lauded Oyebamiji as a politician characterized by loyalty, dedication, and extensive experience. It asserted that his success in the upcoming election must be pursued with a unified purpose, where every member is aligned towards the common goal.
A direct appeal was made to APC leaders at both state and national levels. The forum urged them to diligently work towards harmonizing all internal interests and opinions within the party. This strategic reconciliation, they believe, is essential to guarantee a successful electoral outcome.
Preventing Internal Sabotage and Mobilizing the Grassroots
“We are fast approaching a significant electoral contest, and it is imperative that we enter this poll as a united and cohesive entity,” the communiqué stated.
The forum acknowledged that the selection of Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate has inherently simplified the task ahead. However, they cautioned that continuous and robust efforts are required from state and national leaders to actively prevent any form of internal sabotage that could jeopardize their electoral prospects.
The members of the APC Leaders’ Forum in Obokun explicitly declared their full endorsement of Oyebamiji as their chosen flagbearer. They pledged to spearhead grassroots mobilization efforts across the local government to ensure his victory.
Reaffirming Party Discipline and Reconciliation
The forum reiterated a prior agreement established by APC leaders in the local government. This agreement mandates that all party members should unequivocally support the chosen candidate, regardless of the selection process employed, whether it be consensus or any other constitutional method. Allegiance to other aspirants is to be relinquished once the party has officially produced its flagbearer.
While commending the party leadership for facilitating a peaceful primary election, the forum also issued a call for proactive reconciliation. They urged leaders to engage with and appease any aggrieved members, thereby strengthening the party’s internal cohesion and readiness for the governorship poll.
The communiqué also highlighted encouraging signs, suggesting that the electorate in Osun State is actively seeking the return of the APC to governance. However, this positive outlook was tempered with a stern warning to party members to resolutely shun any divisive tendencies that could undermine their collective efforts.
“With the unwavering dedication and unity of our members, achieving victory at the polls will be a significantly more attainable objective,” the forum concluded.
The group also took the opportunity to express commendation to several key figures within the APC for their contributions to the party’s growth and development. This included President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, Osun State APC Chairman Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, and the leader of the APC Elders’ Forum in the state, Pa Sola Akinwunmi, among others.
